Frequently Asked Questions
Company Background & Values
What got you into developing adventure van soft goods?
Short answer: I’ve always loved developing products and gear I want for myself. Call me selfish.
Long answer: Since I first started driving, I dreamed of owning a camper van—specifically a VW Westfalia. I also loved creating purpose-built gear. I co-founded Granite Gear and spent decades designing innovative outdoor equipment. After moving off-grid in northern Minnesota, we traded our Westfalia for an FJ60 Land Cruiser. Then in 2016, we bought a 4x4 Sprinter cargo van. As we built it out, I put my gear design experience to work, developing high-performance soft goods—starting with the gear we wanted for ourselves.
Our first van builder customer was TouRig, founded by our friend Eric Miller. That partnership helped launch our product line and continues to fuel our innovation.
What do you drive and why?
Our shop is in Two Harbors, MN, but our homestead is 14 miles inland and 8.5 miles down an old railroad grade. The elevation and snow require capable vehicles. We also get serious summer bugs, so our bug screens are well tested.
Daily driver: 2006 Land Cruiser 100 Series
Still rolling: 1983 FJ60

Installation & Fitment
Do your products come with installation hardware?
Yes, most products include mounting screws or magnets as needed. Check the product description for exact contents.
How do I install window covers in my van?
Most window covers mount with integrated magnets or by tucking behind visors. Installation guides are available on our site.
Will your covers fit my van if it’s custom built or upfitted?
Our products are designed to fit factory glass and body panels. For custom builds, check dimensions or contact us for fit guidance.
Can I leave window covers installed while driving?
We recommend removing covers from front cab windows while driving, but side and rear covers can typically stay in place.
Are your cabinets pre-assembled or do they require setup?
All cabinets come ready to install and include hardware. No extra assembly is needed.
Do you build custom vans?
We’ve built our own vans, but we are not a van builder. We specialize in soft goods that enhance your build. Our products are popular with owners of the Winnebago Revel, Tiffin GH1, Jayco Terrain, and other adventure van models.
Do you do custom or contract design work?
We’ve done custom projects in the past and are open to them now. Product development and one-off builds take time, so pricing reflects that. If it's a van model we already support but is not listed on our site, reach out—we might already have what you need. If it’s a design we believe in, we may waive development fees.
Product Use & Compatibility
What makes your products better than other van soft goods?
We use our products ourselves and have decades of experience designing outdoor gear. We focus on performance, clean aesthetics, and original ideas—not “me too” designs. We let our customers decide if we’re the best, and they often tell us we are.
Which van models do your products fit?
We offer model-specific gear for Mercedes Sprinter, Ford Transit, and Ram ProMaster vans, plus a few universal items.
What’s the difference between accordion and fold-up window covers?
Accordion covers stay mounted and cinch out of the way. Fold-up covers are removed and stored separately when not in use.
Can I use your bug screens year-round?
Yes. Many customers leave them installed all year, rolling them up when not in use.
Are the cache pouches strong enough to hold full water bottles or gear?
Absolutely. Each cache is built with rugged materials and bungee retention to hold bottles, books, phones, and more.
Do your cabinets stay open on their own?
Yes. Our collapsible cabinets use magnetic stays to keep the door open and structured while in use.
Materials & Durability
What materials do you use in your products?
We use rugged outdoor-grade fabrics that are water, mold, and mildew resistant, paired with strong mesh and hardware.
Where are the products manufactured?
All products are manufactured in our shop in Two Harbors, MN. After years of overseas production with Granite Gear, we were eager to return to hands-on manufacturing. KnightVision was founded with a dedication to building everything here in Minnesota.
Are all your materials made in the USA?
From 2016 to 2021, 100% of our materials were USA made. Today, about 75% still are. To remain cost competitive and keep production in-house, we now use some high-quality imported solution-dyed fabrics while maintaining USA sourcing wherever possible.
What are solution dyed fabrics and why do you use them?
Solution dyed fabrics are created by adding pigment during the fiber production process, not afterward. This method offers superior colorfastness, improved stain resistance, and a lower environmental impact compared to traditional dyeing techniques.
Are the magnets strong enough to hold covers securely?
Yes. We use rare earth Neodymium magnets which provide reliable hold, even on bumpy roads.
Can your products handle extreme temperatures?
Definitely. Our gear is tested in northern Minnesota and performs in both hot and cold conditions.
Will your screens or covers fade in the sun?
Our fabrics are UV-resistant and built to last, even in harsh sunlight.
How should I clean your products?
Most items can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Avoid harsh detergents or machine washing unless specified.
